We recently completed the fit-out of Traade Coffee in Portobello, helping transform the space into a warm, contemporary café and retail environment with bespoke joinery at the heart of the design.

A key feature of the project was the extensive use of walnut veneer with a clear lacquer finish, creating a consistent, high-quality look throughout the space. Our workshop manufactured and installed a range of bespoke elements including the main coffee bar and cash counter, banquette seating, retail shelving, display plinths and a concealed partition incorporating a hidden door. Existing elements were also carefully repurposed, including storage and central display units, helping integrate old and new within the finished interior.

The works also included bespoke bulkheads above the front and back bar areas, timber wall panelling, café tables, a window display plinth and the installation of client-supplied mirrors and curtains. The main retail wall was adapted to create a cleaner display arrangement, including a suspended clothing rail and retained timber panelling.

Alongside the joinery package, Lucidblack coordinated the wider finishing works, including decoration to walls, ceilings and windows, tiling to the coffee bar and WC, plumbing provisions, power and lighting installation. Feature lighting included LED strips within the front bar light box and back bar, window display spotlights and installation of the general lighting system.

The result is a characterful space that brings together coffee, retail and considered interior detailing, with rich walnut finishes giving Traade a relaxed but polished feel suited perfectly to its Portobello setting.

Let’s see how we can work together to turn you vision into a reality.
